| Christmas With The Hepcats - The Hepcats |
Have yourself a merry HEPCATS Christmas! Twenty-two of your favorite Christmas hymns and seasonal tunes, played with reverent, heartfelt joy by America’s favorite feline fretmeisters (those magnificent musical mousers) — the Hepcats! These tabbys play delightful music of every genre on their acoustics (or is it Paul Johnson in his multi-trackin’ mode? For the record, Paul is billed here as the “producer” and the cats are his protegés.) And on this, their debut CD album, they show that they’ve picked up on Paul’s knack for clearly articulated melodies and inventive arrangements. As a result, Christmas with the Hepcats has proven to have universal appeal — it has won more accolades from a wider variety of folks than just about any CD in our catalog... ...so: may your holidays be similarly brightened by the Hepcats’ warm and engaging package of Christmas cheer!
NOTE: The musical content of this album is identical to an earlier release of the same material entitled "Christmas Guitars" by Paul Johnson. |

Fresh, lively interpretations of these timeless themes and melodies, played with plenty of style and Christmas spirit. The Hepcats are surely the most accomplished acoustic guitarists of the feline world.

As is usually the case with Johnson’s work, the playing here sparkles with invention, and the arrangements nearly always reveal a beguiling architecture. His overdubbed guitars support each other in such a solid manner that when he shifts mood in mid-song, it’s like entering a different room... his renditions never trounce on the character of the originals, but they are often creative enough to tickle you into hearing the songs afresh. Among the gems are a stately, lovely take on ‘Do You Hear What I Hear?,’ a bluesy ‘Little Town of Bethlehem’ and a delicate, high-lofting version of ‘Carol of the Bells’ ...a delightful album.
